Sim Sırma (Gold Thread Embroidery)

 The name of Kahramanmaraş is synonymous with sim sirma, or gold thread embroidery. It is most commonly used on women’s velvet dresses, velvet cushions and bedspreads. A school opened by the Public Education Center holds courses in ‘sim sirma’ keeping this traditional handicraft alive. Fine examples of this elegant handiwork can be seen in the Ottoman Palaces and museums.
